HISTORY

FRIPON-AUSTRIA started on August 31st 2015 with the installation of the first FRIPON camera on the roof of the main building of the Natural History Museum Vienna (NHMW), a project that was initiated by Ludovic Ferrière and Christian Koeberl to monitor the sky for fireballs and recover the fallen meteorites. Later a radio station was also deployed on the roof of the NHMW. After a few years of a long “testing phase” and the recording of some single events and a few multi-events of detected fireballs, additional FRIPON cameras were acquired, thanks to the Dr. Anton Oelzelt-Newin endowment of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW). The deployment of the FRIPON-Austria cameras is supported by the Wolfgang Pauli Institute (WPI).
